CHURCH IN A BIKER BAR?

Well... why not? James Murphy (aka Rev. Smurf according to the bikers who attend) had a burden to reach out to the bikers who frequent the Mexia, Texas area. He had been going to Mexia for quite some time when he felt led to begin a Thursday evening service in the area. Under the covering of "That Church" in Corsicana, Tx. and pastor Mike Howell, James began to look for a place to have the services. The owner of the local biker bar offered to close her bar on Thursday evenings and allow James to use the bar as a meeting place. The first service had around 100 bikers show up and three accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. In the first two months four more did the same.

Janet and I think the world of James and want to support James as a resource in any way he may need us. If you are ever in the area on a Thursday evening, look for the bar with the sign that list which bands are at the bar on which nights and then says "Thursday Bar Closed - Church Night" Oh, yeah... and don't be offended by the neon beer sign behind James while he preaches. It is just part of the decor.
