Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ NLT)

“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ NASB)

Observation:

It is quite notable that these are persecuted for doing right. This does not always equate to “doing right things”. You can do right things at the wrong time or with the wrong motivation or attitude and you would not be doing right. The blessing is only for doing right. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven because these are the ones who are in right standing with God.

Application:

There was a day when I thought I was persecuted for doing right. I was bound and determined to get all of those around me saved. I was not persecuted for doing right, although wanting to get them saved was a right thing. I was persecuted for being obnoxious. By the way, you will not respond right to persecution when you bring it on yourself. We need to be sure we are doing right. This involves being led, motivated, and instructed by God to do what we do. And it must be done with the right attitudes and at the right time. Doing right involves a lot more than doing right things.

Prayer:

Father, let me be led by you to do right. Let me have the wisdom to do right things at the right time and with the right motivation. Don’t let me get ahead of you and end up doing things my own way. Let me listen and let me follow and then what I do will be right.
