Scripture:

Eight part devotion on this text – Part 7 – For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew‬ ‭6:9-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Observation:

“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

We end our prayer as we started it… with a statement of adoration, worship, and praise of the one true God. This is the part of the prayer called the doxology. Many of us grew up singing a doxology written by Thomas Ken that went like this, “Praise God from whom all blessing flow Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above, ye heavenly host Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” We should conclude our prayer time in just such a way. Recognizing the key to our prayer is in the words “Thine” or “Yours.” Every thing is His. All the earth belongs to Him. All Believers belong to Him. Yours is the kingdom and this is a theocracy not A democracy. I am not the one in charge, so I cannot issue orders, I can only make requests. It is amazing how that one statement affects my prayer attitude. Yours is the power over everything. Nothing impossible for God. Yours is the glory because of what You do and who You are. Your Kingdom, Your Power, and Your Glory is forever.

Application:

Our prayers must begin with and end with recognition of God, His Lordship, His power, and His glory. If I am going to prevail in my prayer time, my will must be lost in His will as my sovereign God (He must be my king), and I must be lost in His presence. Bob Dylan sang a song, “You got to serve somebody.” I choose to serve Him.

Prayer:

Father, help me to keep in mind who You are and my position in relation to that when I pray. Don’t let me start telling you what to do when I should be yielding myself to your will and your plan.
