Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

SCRIPTURE:

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

Matthew 7:13-14 ESV

OBSERVATION:

This passage immediately follows the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do to you, along with not judging others, seeking God, etc. Then it uses the illustration of the narrow gate to describe the difference between living a godly life and a worldly life. The way He has instructed us to live is not the normal or easy thing to do and few really choose that path for their lives.

APPLICATION:

A selfish ego driven lifestyle comes naturally, but putting others first takes work. You don’t just live the right way without trying. The good news is that when we become Christians, we are made new and given a new nature. Jesus empowers us to do the right things and we just have to choose the right way.

PRAYER:

Father, help me to walk in the narrow path, putting others first and living with a mind set to do things the way you would do things.

“Broad is the road that leads to death,

And thousands walk together there;

But wisdom shows a narrower path,

With here and there a traveller.”

– Isaac Watts
