Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

SCRIPTURE:

“”Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.””

Matthew 7:24-27 ESV

OBSERVATION:

This passage explains this portion of the previous passage. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT THE ONE WHO DOES the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Storms come from above, rain, from below, flood, and from every direction to beat on every house. Hearing God’s word and doing what you hear is the foundation to surviving life’s storms. It is foolish to think that one can ignore God’s plan for how we are to live our lives and survive. This passage does not say that God will keep the storms away, but that if we live according to His words we will be able to withstand the storms.

APPLICATION:

It is important to note that although we are saved by a gift from God and not from earning it, those who are saved will do things God’s ways. It is the foundation that we build our lives on. His principles outlined from the Word of God contained in the Bible are essential to building a solid life that can stand against life’s storms. When problems come, those who live according to His word are prepared to get through them.

PRAYER:

Father, I do not ask that you keep all of life’s storms away, but I do ask that you prepare me to endure the storms ahead. Help me to realize that for me to live according to your word now, is the preparation in need for then.
