Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

SCRIPTURE:

“That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.””

Matthew 8:16-17 ESV

OBSERVATION:

That evening, at the end of the sabbath, people brought others who were in dire need. He healed or delivered each and every one with just his spoken word. There was no mention of any big commotion or theatric antics, just a spoken word. And this fulfilled yet another prophecy that had been made about the messiah hundreds of years before. This text tells us that fulfillment was the reason for this evening. Even this event pointed to Jesus as our savior.

APPLICATION:

Jesus still heals people of sickness and delivers people from demons. He does not need our theatrics to make it happen anymore today than He did then. The word spoken in His name is just as powerful today as it was then. When He does these things, there is a reason and it is to draw people to Him, not to be part of a show.

PRAYER:

Father, help me to depend on the power of your word remembering that we ask for these things in Jesus name and that the end result is that others will know you more.
