Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. (Hebrews 13:3 NLT)

Observation:

Specifically, this refers to those who are imprisoned for their faith in Christ. We are to remember them, pray for them, and care for them as much as is possible as though it were ourselves who were locked up. We are also supposed to remember, pray for, and care for those who are abused and neglected by others as if we could feel their pain and humiliation.

Application:

Christians should be there for the underdogs. Those who others abuse or ignore should be lifted up by believers. In reality, we should, with a heart of compassion feel their pain. And although this text referred to prisoners who were there because of religious persecution, we should also pray and care for those believers who are in prison because of their own failures and fault. They are still our brothers in Christ. They made mistakes that landed them in prison. Sometimes the difference is that they got caught and others did not. We should still remember them in every way that we can.

Prayer:

Father, let me be someone that reaches out to others that even the church world has given up on, both to the Christians and the pre-Christians. Let me pray for them, but let me also find opportunities where I can also reach out and care for them in a tangible way myself. Let them know that they are loved as brothers and sisters in bonds. And let me extend my hand to the underdogs that other Christians overlook, and let me inspire other believers to do the same.
