Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Show your faith…

Scripture:

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? (James 2:15, 16 NLT)

Observation:

When we know of Christians who are genuinely struggling and we just blow them off with kind words without doing anything, what does that say about our own faith in God? And how does that demonstrate Christ in us? It does not help our fellow believers and it does not show well our cause.

Application:

Years ago, a biker I was sharing with ask me a question. He said, “If I breakdown in Amarillo, Texas, I can call a brother (biker brother) and he will come get me, help me get my bike fixed, feed me, and give me a place to stay if I need it until I can get back on the road. If I become a Christian, will the church do that for me?” I gave him a card and told him that if he calls me, I will find someone in the church to help him. Truth is, most churches would not. We have been inundated with fakes, phonies, and professional beggars to the point that we do not help anyone. Even the apostles had to deal with mooches in the church when they said, “if they won't work, they don't eat.” I think this is where we have to be sensitive to the spirit enough to hear when God says, “Help this one, this is real” and then we need to do it.

Prayer:

Father, help me to know when needs are real and then help me to meet the need. If it is beyond my means, then help me to find others to help those who need it. Don't let me ever be so cold as to say “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well” to someone you have sent my way for me to meet the need.
