Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Show your faith…

Scripture:

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” (James 2:17, 18 NLT)

Observation:

True faith produces good deeds. Just believing something is true does not necessarily make you a true believer. Although some, even today, want to say that not everyone that has faith will do good deeds or many would say will live like a Christian, the truth is that the proof of true faith is shown and not just said.

Application:

People like to justify their lifestyles that do not follow the teachings of Christ and his apostles. They claim to have faith in Christ, but they just do not do anything about it. Some may even say that they are Christians, but are not religious as an excuse for not going to church or doing the things God would have Christians to do. James here explains that a true believers faith shows through in the way he lives his life according to God's word and those who don't, really are not true believers. Yes, it is a harsh thing to say, but it needed to be said then and it needs to be said now. James would admit that he was not saved by his own works, but his salvation produces good works because of his faith.

Prayer:

Father, never let me forget that you changed me when you saved me. I was born again, created to do good works that you preordained that I should do. Never let me grow complacent in my walk with you. Keep me doing what you made me to do so that others may see you through me.
