Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. (James 4:17 NLT)

Observation:

A simple but powerful passage. Sinning is not just about doing things wrong. It is also sin to not do what you should do.

Application:

Doing the right things is just as important as not doing wrong things. When we know what we should do and do not do it, we are just as much of a sinner as those who do evil things. Do you know that God wants you to have a committed relationship to a local church and be under the authority of a pastor as outlined in Ephesians 4? If you do not do this you are sinning. Do you know that you should not gossip, tell white lies, be mean to others, be unforgiving or other things, but do the wrong thing anyway? That is sin. We need to repent and start doing the things we know we should do and stop making excuses for why you cannot do right.

Prayer:

Father, do not let me make excuses for not doing the things that I know are the right things to do. Instead, give me the courage to take the steps needed to begin to do what I know to do.
