Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. (James 5:7, 8 NLT)

Observation:

Even before the rain begins in the spring and in the fall, farmers eagerly look forward to the harvest t be ready. We, too, do not see the Lord coming yet, but we look for the time to be right and wait patiently. The time will come, do not give up.

Application:

When the seeds are barely in the ground a farmer looks forward to the harvest. He does not know when it will take place other than he knows the season. We, too, do not know when the Lord will return, but we know as sure as the farmers know the seed will yield a crop that our Lord and savior Jesus Christ will come again. The harvest for the farmer is valuable. It is what he is working for. Our salvation was a gift from God, but we too are working toward a great harvest. The farmer does not stop working when the seed is planted. This is the beginning of the work that will bring in the crop. Our salvation is the beginning of our work, too. Let's work toward a great harvest of souls and look forward to the day he returns and says to all of his workers, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Prayer:

Lord, I look forward to your coming and I want to be found working for the kingdom when you come. I want to add as many as I can to your harvest. And I want to hear you say to me, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
