Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment. Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. (1 Peter 2:19, 20 NLT)

Observation:

If we are doing what God wants us to do and have to endure bad treatment we do not deserve, god is pleased if we patiently endure the unjust treatment. To repeat, suffer for doing good AND enduring it patiently and God is pleased with you. Being patient when we are beaten for doing wrong though does us no good at all.

Application:

To please God in difficult circumstances do two things, make sure you are doing what God wants you to do, and patiently endure any unjust treatment. Don’t complain about being treated wrong when you don’t deserve it, don’t bad mouth those who are doing you wrong, don’t get upset. Just endure it patiently. God is pleased when we obey and God is pleased when we graciously endure. Conversely, God is not pleased when we do endure with the right attitude even though we were doing the right thing and God is not pleased no matter how well you endure if you were suffering because you were not obeying Him. Do both… Do what he wants you to do and keep the right attitude no matter what.

Prayer:

God help me to be obedient to your plan for my life and if or when I am treated unjustly, let me keep a proper godly attitude about my situation. I am only responsible for whether I do right and not for how others behave in return.
