Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. (1 John 2:3-6 NLT)

Observation:

This is how we can know for sure that we know God and are saved to live in him. Those who know him, love him, and live in him, obey his commandments and do their best to live their lives as Jesus lived his. Anyone who does not do this is lying to themselves.

Application:

When a person comes to know Jesus as their Lord and savior, things change in them. The love that they are inwardly compelled to have for Christ causes them to want to do things his way. It does not matter how much someone goes to church or how often they pray a sinners prayer. That has never been the test of faith. Loving obedience is the proof. This does not mean that a believer never makes mistakes, but they are mistakes and not a pattern for life.

Prayer:

Father, I do love you. And because I do, I want to please you by living in obedience to you and your word. I have made mistakes along the way, but you restore me when I have failed. Help me to continue to live as you would have me to live.
