Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception. (1 John 4:4-6 NLT)

Observation:

A follow up on yesterday’s passage about not listening to false teachers….

Even with these out there, you believers belong to God. You have already won a victory over these false teachers because the Holy Spirit that lives in you is greater than any spirit that lives in the world. Those false teachers belong to the world instead of with God, so they speak from a worldly viewpoint with words that they want to hear. They do not listen to us because they do not belong to God. Who people listen to shows us if they have the Holy Spirit or the spirit of deception.

Application:

Because we have the Holy Spirit lives in us, we have already won the victory over false teachers. How? If we do two things we can see through false teachers. One, is to listen to the Holy Spirit. That is absolutely essential. Second, is to read the scriptures in context. God’s word was never written to pick and choose scriptures out of context to prove a point. The Holy Spirit will guide you to truth. Here is a clue to start with, our purpose is to build His kingdom and not to build our own. When people make everything about you and for your benefit, you might check it out closely. Look for. Kingdom viewpoint instead of a worldly viewpoint.

Prayer:

Father, I am so thankful that you enable all of us to be able to see through false teachings and have sent your Holy Spirit to guide us into truth. Lord, help me to always look for the heavenly viewpoint rather than a worldly self gratifying viewpoint.
