Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. (1 John 5:1-3 NLT)

Observation:

Everyone who believes Jesus is the Christ is a child of God and will also love the rest of God’s children, too. We know this because we love God and obey His commandments. Loving God is linked to keeping his commandments and they are not too hard to keep.

Application:

People try to separate obedience to God’s commands from faith. They often link keeping any kind of rules as being legalistic. This is not true at all. Legalism is when we add on additional rules by man. God has rules for our lives that we will obey if we love him. If we are unwilling to obey his rules, than maybe we should re-check our faith.

Prayer:

Father, help me to keep your rules and to place your desires above those of my own. I do love you enough to obey you. In addition to the rules that are black and white in scripture, help me to see what you want from me so that others will not find me to be a stumbling block to their faith also.
