Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement. Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work. (‭2 John‬ ‭1‬:‭9-11‬ NLT)

Observation:

Anyone who once walked with God wanders away from a relationship with God if they stray away from the true teachings about Christ coming in the flesh, died on a cross for our sins, resurrected bodily before being glorified to wait by the Father, and will come back for His church. Those who stick to the true message of and by Christ remain in a relationship with Him. Any false teacher who comes should not be given a place or welcomed into your church or given any kind of encouragement. If you do, then you become a partner in the false teachers work by endorsing him with your actions toward him.

Application:

The teachings about and by Christ are regarded the test of truth and false teachers wander away from this . One of the major tests of false teaching is the claim to have gone beyond the revelation in Jesus Christ to new or better “truth.” If they “wandered” away, then they must have started out right but got caught up in fad teachings or just the waves of doing what it takes to please listeners. Whatever the reason, we need to make sure that our actions do not add credibility to what they are doing. Everyone around us may accuse of intolerance because we will not endorse the “doctrine” of the day, but as Kysar notes, “Tolerance must finally have its limits, if the church is to have integrity”. We cannot and must not endorse doctrines of the day if they are in contrary to what the Word of God teaches.

Prayer:

Father, help me to insure my tolerance has proper limits. Let your doctrines/teachings reign supreme in my life and let that dictate who I can fellowship with.
