Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. (‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭20-21‬ NLT)

Observation:

For those of you who are living in the truth, you must build up each other in your most holy faith, pray in the Spirit, and wait the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ who will give you eternal life. In doing these things, you will keep yourself safe in God’s love.

Application:

“Safe”, what a wonderful word. We can stay safe in God’s loving arms by doing these things, build up each other, pray in the Spirit, and lean on the mercy that was bought for us by Jesus on the cross. Building up each other. Christians are not supposed to do it alone. One of the really good things about building up others is that it is always reciprocal. We need to be a part of a local body of believers and not just doing this at random with believers with whom we do not have a covenant relationship with. The local church, when it is operating as it should, brings with it covenant relationships with others so that we can know each other well enough to do this kind of building up. Praying in the Spirit, with His power, is more than just talking to God, it is being led by the Spirit with the very words that need to be prayed. With and without understanding. And leaning on the mercy of our Lord is what gives us the opportunity to do these other things. Not feeling safe? Maybe you need to stop trying to make it on your own.

Prayer:

Father, keep me right in the middle of those I can be accountable to. Let me hear their words of encouragement and let me encourage them, too. Guide me in my prayers with the words you would have me to pray and build up my faith. I thank you for your mercy and I eagerly await when I will be with you for eternity.
