Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. (Hebrews 11:8 NLT)

Observation:

Abraham was given a directive to leave the place he had spent his life in and to go to a place that he would give to him and his descendants, but he was not told where that place was.

Application:

God operates on a “need to know” basis. Who knows if Abraham would have left if he knew up front how difficult it was going to be or how long it would take to get that land. We instead obey “by faith” even though we may not know what all lies ahead when we step out to do what he wants us to do. That faith is not only that we believe what we hope for, but that we also trust God to know what He is doing.

Prayer:

Father, thanks for your guidance and direction. I trust you to know what is best for me and my family. So I do as the old hymn says to “trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
