Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer
Scripture:
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9 NLT)
Observation:
Where the majority of the Jews had rejected Jesus as the Messiah, the apostle now writes to those who believe and refers to them as God's chosen people. A term reserved before to the Jews alone. We are what Moses referred to as a kingdom of priest , a set apart nation of people as believers. Being brought out of darkness and into the light of The Lord we can show others the goodness of God in what we do and in what God has done for us.
Application:
We are God's chosen people as true believers in The Lord Jesus Christ. We are a set apart people. This does not mean that we do not associate with others or go off by ourselves, but it does mean that our actions are different than those of the rest of the world. As a kingdom of priest we serve the most high God. A priest is not an inactive position. It is one of service and sacrifice. We literally belong to God, but to lose our lives to him is to gain our lives in him. Because of our moving in lifestyle from darkness to light, people will see and know that God is good.
Prayer:
Father, I willing submit myself to you in service. I do not take for granted being one of those who became one of your chosen by accepting your son as both my Lord and savior. Let my life so shine that others will see you and not me in the life that I live.
