Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. (1 John 3:4-6 NLT)

Observation:

Sin is breaking God’s law. It is a total opposite of what God’s law is. Jesus, who had not sin, came to not just forgive us of our sins, but to take away our sins from us. Anyone who continues as a true believer will not continue to live in sin. Those who claim to be believers, but keep on sinning like they always did, do not know Him or even understand who He is.

Application:

We need to get away from the attitude that says “I am just a sinner saved by grace.” We were sinners, but Jesus by His grace takes away our sin. How can we then continue to be called by what is removed from us. We are now children of God and saints in the eyes of God. We should live accordingly knowing that if we sin now it is not our normal behavior. But if I do mess up and sin, Jesus will remove this, too. Normal behavior for a Christian is to live above sin.

Prayer:

Father, help to always remember what you did when I confessed Jesus as my Lord. You made me a new creation. I am no longer the helpless man bound by sin. You set me free from the powers of sin. Help me to not only remember this, but to also live it out in my daily walk with you.
