Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

Scripture:

Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. (1 John 3:20-22 NLT)

Observation:

If we feel guilty or not, God is greater than our feelings and through His grace we can come to God boldly. And, because we obey Him and do things that please Him, we will receive whatever we ask from Him.

Application:

We often hear the part of this passage quoted about us receiving whatever we ask from Him, but we must look at it in context. We can ask and do receive, but it is because we obey and do things that please Him. This is not doing to earn, but it is doing because we belong to Him. He in turn gives to us because we do belong to Him. I also think that because we belong to Him, it affects what we ask for in the first place.

Prayer:

Father, help me to behave in a way that pleases you. Not because I want things from you, but because I love you and belong to you. And thank you for all the things that you have provided to me when I have asked. You always go above and beyond for me.
