Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. (1 John 4:7-12 NLT)
We are to continue to love one another since that love comes from God. Anyone who has this love is because they have been given it as a child of God and they know God. Anyone who does not love like this, it is because they do not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son, Jesus, into the world to die for us so that we might have eternal life through him. That gift is real love… not how we live God, but how much that he loved us and proved it by sending his son as a sacrifice to take away our sins even when we did not love him. Since God loved us this much, we are expected by him to love each other. No one has seen God, but we can see him in each other when we fully express his love, because he is in us, to each other.
God is true love. If God truly lives in us, then his love will show through us. Although no one literally sees God, they can see him through us as we demonstrate love to others. If our love comes and goes with the situation, then we need to get right with God so that our demonstrations of love will be genuine and continuous.
Father, let your love shine through me so that others, both believers and non-believers will see you in me. Let your love be demonstrated by my actions toward others and not just in the words that I speak.
