Eight part devotion on this text – Part 3 – Your kingdom come.
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”
My third attitude in prayer is to recognize that there actually is a kingdom of God and that God’s will is sovereign. Seeing God as King, we will beginning to understand the power that can be unleashed from praying this way. Remember, Jesus is teaching us how to pray. He is instructing us to affirm what is the real priority for humankind – His Kingdom and rule.
As we pray this way, we will develop a Kingdom-consciousness. We will develop a greater understanding of His will. We can see if our prayer really seeks his will by asking ourselves some questions: What are my priorities? Are they Kingdom priorities? Do my priorities line up with the Word of God, the will of God, and the purposes of Christ? Have I considered the desires of God concerning my life, work, marriage, career, parenting, decisions, and service in the church? There is actually a real freedom in doing things according to His plan! We are not responsible for the outcome when we pray: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”
Father, help me to seek Your will when I pray. Let my life be something that furthers your kingdom rather than my agenda.
