Eight part devotion on this text – Part 6 – And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV
“And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”
The sixth attitude that I need to have when I pray is to realize that God is my source for victory over sin. Temptation itself is not sin until we yield to it. Temptation can be a time of testing of our steadfastness. But it is at it’s worse when it is driven by lust or solicitation from the enemy of our souls. We have to understand where it come from. It comes from one of two places, from our own lust or from attacks of the enemy. We are to pray that God not only keep us from temptation, but that He also delivers us from the attacks of the enemy.
We ask and God empowers us to overcome sin and defeat the evil one. I do my part to avoid yielding to temptation in three major ways: (a) by fleeing from fleshly temptations, (b) by fighting back against the devil with the Word of God, and (c) by having faith to overcome the world. Flee – Fight – Faith.
Father, thank you for empowering me to overcome sin in my life. I haven’t totally overcome it yet, but I ask for you to keep from temptation and deliver me from the attacks of the devil.
